Karachi to Experience Rain and Thunderstorms Starting March 18, PMD Forecasts

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating that Karachi will witness rainfall and thunderstorms beginning from the evening of March 18. This development comes just days before the upcoming Eidul Fitr celebrations in 2026, raising expectations of a change in the city’s weather pattern. The PMD has highlighted the arrival of a new western weather system that is anticipated to affect Karachi’s climate by tonight, bringing with it intermittent showers and gusty winds.

the detailed forecast, residents of Karachi should prepare for strong winds starting this evening, which will accompany the rainfall over the next two days. The thunderstorms are expected to be intense at times, and there is a chance that some localities might experience hailstorms, adding to the unusual weather activity. This western disturbance is likely to cause a noticeable drop in temperatures, providing some relief from the usual pre-summer heat that Karachi typically endures during this period.

In addition to the local forecast for Karachi, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released a nationwide weather advisory covering the period from Tuesday through Wednesday. The advisory warns of light to moderate rainfall combined with thunderstorms and windstorms across various parts of the country. Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces are expected to receive widespread rainfall and stormy weather, which could impact daily activities and travel plans.

Meanwhile, isolated showers and thunderstorms are predicted in the northern and western regions, including Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Balochistan. Although Sindh province is generally expected to remain dry, specific areas such as Sukkur, Larkana, Karachi, and Hyderabad may experience sporadic rainfall and thunderstorm activity during this forecast period. These weather changes could influence agricultural activities and local transportation in these regions.

It is worth noting that the arrival of this western weather system is part of the seasonal patterns that occasionally bring relief to the southern parts of Pakistan. The PMD’s forecast serves as an important alert for residents and authorities alike to stay prepared for sudden weather changes. The possibility of hail and strong winds also calls for caution to prevent damage to property and ensure public safety. As the country approaches Eidul Fitr, these weather conditions may also affect outdoor festivities and travel plans for many families.
