In a remarkable display of legal expertise and advocacy skills, the team from the University of the Punjab’s Gujranwala campus earned international acclaim at the Boston International Innovation Moot (BIIM) 2026. The team, consisting of students Jannat Majid and Sidra Abdul Khaliq under the guidance of coach Ahsan Ali, stood out among a competitive field of top law schools from across the globe. Their exceptional performance was officially recognized through participation certificates and awards presented by the event organizers.

Representing Pakistan as the only national team among approximately a dozen international participants, the Punjab University contingent achieved a rare feat by securing the Best Memorial Awards in both the Defence and Prosecution categories. This dual victory in the written advocacy segment underscores their comprehensive understanding of legal principles and their ability to craft compelling arguments from opposing perspectives, a challenge that few teams manage to master.

The competition results, released by the BIIM authorities, highlighted the Pakistani team’s outstanding scores of 92 out of 100 on both sides of the case. This impressive achievement placed them ahead of teams hailing from countries such as India, South Africa, Italy, and China, reflecting the high caliber of their legal research and written submissions. Their success in the memorial rounds, widely regarded as one of the most demanding parts of the moot, speaks volumes about their meticulous preparation and analytical skills.

The Memorial Award is a prestigious recognition that honors excellence in legal writing, structured argumentation, and the ability to persuasively present complex issues in written form. By winning this award for both Defence and Prosecution memoranda, the Punjab University team demonstrated not only their versatility but also a deep grasp of the nuances involved in legal advocacy. Their achievement is particularly significant given the diverse and competitive nature of the participating teams, which included universities from Africa, Asia, Europe, and South Asia.

In addition to their written success, the team also made a strong impression during the oral advocacy rounds. One of the speakers from the Pakistani team earned preliminary scores in the 90s, ranking among the top advocates in the initial stages of the competition. Although the Top Individual Oralist award was ultimately claimed by a participant from Namibia, the balanced and consistent performance of the Punjab University team across both written and oral components secured their position as one of the leading contenders in the moot.

The Boston International Innovation Moot 2026, held from February 6 to 8, is an emerging platform that brings together law students worldwide to address innovative legal challenges and global issues. This event has quickly gained recognition for encouraging fresh perspectives and fostering international legal discourse. The success of the Punjab University team at this prestigious event highlights the growing prominence of Pakistani law students on the global stage and serves as a testament to the quality of legal education and mentorship available in Pakistan.

This achievement not only brings pride to the University of the Punjab but also inspires other Pakistani law students to engage actively in international moot court competitions. It reflects the dedication, hard work, and talent present within the country’s legal academic community, signaling a promising future for Pakistan’s representation in global legal forums.
