Sindh Introduces Pakistan’s First Digital Insurance Monitoring System to Boost Road Safety

The Sindh government has taken a groundbreaking step by launching Pakistan’s first-ever digital insurance monitoring system, marking a significant advancement in the province’s efforts to improve road safety and provide financial security to victims of traffic accidents. This new system is designed to ensure that all vehicles operating within Sindh have valid third-party insurance coverage, a move aimed at protecting both drivers and pedestrians on the roads.

Under this initiative, the provincial government has made it compulsory for every vehicle to hold third-party insurance before it can be registered or have its token tax collected. This strict enforcement measure means that vehicles lacking valid insurance will be barred from registration processes and will not be able to renew their token tax, effectively curbing the number of uninsured vehicles on Sindh’s roads. The Chief Minister’s spokesperson highlighted that this policy is part of a broader strategy to enhance accountability and safeguard citizens financially in the event of road mishaps.

In addition to the digital monitoring system, the government has introduced a new legal provision within the Sindh Motor Vehicle Ordinance 2025. This amendment mandates financial compensation for victims of traffic accidents, providing a safety net for affected families. Specifically, the heirs of individuals who lose their lives in road accidents will be entitled to receive Rs700,000, while those who suffer disabilities due to such incidents will be compensated with Rs500,000. This development reflects the government’s commitment to offering tangible support to families facing sudden and tragic losses.

Officials involved in implementing the policy emphasize that this move is not only about enforcing insurance compliance but also about delivering meaningful financial protection to vulnerable segments of society. The Excise and Taxation Department has been instructed to rigorously apply these new regulations, ensuring that no vehicle can bypass the insurance requirement. Moreover, the law now requires valid insurance documentation for the transfer of vehicle ownership, closing loopholes and promoting transparency in vehicle transactions.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah described the launch of the digital insurance monitoring system as a landmark achievement for road safety in Sindh. He underscored that the introduction of mandatory third-party insurance will provide essential relief to low-income families who often bear the brunt of accidents without any financial backup. him, this initiative will guarantee that accident victims receive prompt monetary assistance, reducing their hardships during difficult times.

Furthermore, the newly implemented digital platform has been engineered to be highly secure and transparent, effectively eliminating the risk of fraudulent insurance policies that have plagued the system in the past. This technological upgrade is expected to streamline insurance verification processes and enhance overall compliance.

To ensure the public is well-informed about these changes, Chief Minister Murad has directed authorities to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign. This campaign will educate citizens about the importance of third-party insurance, the benefits it offers, and the legal obligations now in place. The government’s approach emphasizes that the objective goes beyond mere tax collection; it aims to provide genuine services and protection to the people of Sindh, fostering a safer and more responsible driving culture across the province.
