In a remarkable display of unity and shared purpose, ARY Digital Network – North America organized a grand Interfaith Iftar Dinner in New York, bringing together more than 500 participants from diverse backgrounds. This significant event, held during the holy month of Ramadan, served as a platform to celebrate fellowship, mutual respect, and the collective blessings that Ramadan inspires across different communities. The gathering was graced by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, who served as the Chief Guest, alongside a distinguished assembly of faith leaders, elected representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps.

The evening commenced with warm opening remarks delivered by Asif Jamal, the Chief Organizer and Chief Operating Officer of ARY Digital Network – North America. He highlighted that the event was far more than a traditional breaking of the fast; it was a conscious effort to promote harmony and solidarity in a world often marked by division and misunderstanding. Mr. Jamal reflected on the core values that Ramadan instills—discipline, empathy, gratitude, compassion, and service—emphasizing that interfaith unity involves respecting differences while prioritizing cooperation over conflict and dialogue over discord.

One of the standout aspects of the evening was the prominent role played by young leaders from the community, who served as emcees throughout the program. Mr. Jamal stressed the importance of genuine youth empowerment, pointing out that it must go beyond symbolism to become a meaningful investment in the future. He underscored that entrusting the younger generation with leadership responsibilities is crucial for nurturing a society grounded in peace, understanding, and inclusivity.

The program officially began with a solemn recitation from the Holy Qur’an, setting a reflective and spiritual tone for the night. Following this, a panel of interfaith leaders representing five major religious traditions addressed the attendees. These included Imam Mansoor Rafiq Umar representing Islam, Mark Meyer Appel speaking for Judaism, Reverend Dr. Emmanuel Asse from Christianity, Guruji H.H. Dileepkumar Thankappan representing Hinduism, and Japneet Singh (Jap) from Sikhism. Each leader shared heartfelt messages centered on themes of peace, unity, love, care, and compassion—principles that resonate deeply during Ramadan and are universally embraced across faiths.

The event also featured speeches from prominent elected officials who reaffirmed their commitment to fostering interfaith collaboration and community cohesion. Phil Ramos, Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly, addressed the audience with strong support for initiatives that bring diverse communities together. State Senator Steve Rhodes echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of civic unity and active community engagement. Representing community leadership, Dr. Ejaz Ahmed, Chairman of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of America (APPAC), spoke passionately about advocacy and the power of collective progress. Dr. Babar K. Rao, President of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA), highlighted the critical role of humanitarian service and professional responsibility in building bridges across communities.

The diplomatic presence was further strengthened by Aamer Ahmed Atozai, Consul General of Pakistan in New York, who stressed the importance of nurturing stronger ties not only between nations but also across different faith traditions. His remarks underscored the role of diplomacy in promoting peace and understanding in an increasingly interconnected world.

The highlight of the evening was the keynote address by Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad. He eloquently spoke about the necessity of global cooperation and interfaith harmony, drawing attention to the universal values that Ramadan encourages—empathy, generosity, and a shared sense of responsibility toward humanity. Ambassador Ahmad particularly praised the young emcees for their poise, professionalism, and leadership throughout the event. In a symbolic gesture of confidence in the future, he invited all the youth emcees to join him on stage for a group photograph, capturing a powerful image of unity that transcended faiths, generations, and leadership roles.

As the host, ARY Digital Network – North America reiterated its dedication to leveraging media platforms not just to share stories, but to build bridges between communities, amplify the voices of youth, and encourage meaningful dialogue. The Grand Interfaith Iftar Dinner stood as a testament to solidarity, bringing together faith leaders, elected officials, diplomats, medical professionals, youth representatives, and community members under one roof. Together, they reaffirmed their collective commitment to peace, dignity, and mutual understanding in a world that deeply needs these values.
