Islamabad Police Implement New Traffic Diversions and Red Zone Restrictions

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have introduced a new traffic management plan aimed at regulating vehicle movement within the federal capital’s sensitive Red Zone. This announcement, made on Friday, outlines specific restrictions and alternative routes designed to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion in critical areas of the city.

Under the revised plan, access to the Red Zone will be limited, with only Margalla Road and the route passing by the Marriott Hotel remaining open for entry. All other entry points leading into this high-security area will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic. This measure is intended to enhance security and manage the heavy traffic volumes that typically accumulate around government offices and diplomatic missions located within the Red Zone.

Commuters should take note that Kulsum Plaza on Fazl-e-Haq Road, particularly the stretch towards China Chowk, will be closed for traffic movement. Drivers are advised to divert their routes and utilize Jinnah Avenue as a preferred alternative to avoid delays. This change is expected to impact daily commuters who use this corridor to access central parts of Islamabad.

Additionally, traffic originating from the Polyclinic area heading towards Lal Quarter Chowk via Luqman Hakim Road will be rerouted. Motorists are encouraged to use Sadr Road instead, which will serve as the designated alternative route. This diversion aims to alleviate congestion on Luqman Hakim Road and ensure smoother transit through the adjoining sectors.

For those traveling between sectors G-6 and F-6, the Islamabad Traffic Police recommend using the China Chowk Underpass or Seventh Avenue via Jinnah Avenue. These routes have been identified as more efficient pathways to navigate the affected zones without encountering significant delays.

Traffic moving between Aabpara Chowk and the Serena Hotel along Suhrawardy Road will also experience diversions. Commuters coming from Club Road are advised to follow a different path, utilizing Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, and Margalla Road to reach their destinations. Similarly, those traveling from Bhara Kahu should adopt the same route to avoid congestion and ensure timely arrival.

The Islamabad Traffic Police have urged all road users to cooperate fully with the new traffic arrangements and follow the advised routes carefully. Compliance with these directives will help minimize inconvenience and contribute to a more orderly traffic environment in the capital. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and may make further adjustments as necessary to maintain smooth vehicular movement.
