In a significant move aimed at uplifting vulnerable segments of society, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given her approval to the newly introduced ‘Rehmat Card Scheme’. This initiative is designed to extend much-needed financial assistance to widows and orphans residing in the province, reflecting the government’s commitment to social welfare and support for those facing hardship.

During a high-level meeting convened to finalize the details of the program, Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of providing a safety net for widows and orphans, emphasizing that these groups should no longer be left to struggle without assistance. She highlighted that it is the government’s fundamental duty to ensure that marginalized individuals receive adequate support, enabling them to lead dignified lives despite their challenging circumstances.

Under the framework of the Rehmat Card Scheme, each widow will be granted a one-time financial aid amounting to Rs100,000. In addition, orphans will receive Rs25,000 to help cover their immediate needs and contribute to their upbringing. This financial support aims to alleviate some of the economic burdens faced by these vulnerable groups, providing them with a foundation to build upon.

To facilitate access to the scheme, eligible widows and orphans are encouraged to visit any nearby office of the Zakat and Ushr Department located throughout Punjab. Registration for the Rehmat Card is straightforward, ensuring that those in need can easily apply and benefit from the assistance without unnecessary delays or complications.

This initiative comes at a time when social welfare programs are increasingly recognized as essential tools for reducing poverty and promoting social justice. The Rehmat Card Scheme not only offers immediate financial relief but also symbolizes the provincial government’s resolve to prioritize the welfare of its most vulnerable citizens. Moving forward, officials have indicated that efforts will be made to monitor the scheme’s implementation closely, ensuring transparency and effectiveness in reaching the intended beneficiaries.
