Tahir Ashrafi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, recently expressed optimism regarding the security landscape in Balochistan, describing the current law and order situation as satisfactory. Speaking at a press conference held in Quetta alongside members of the National Paigham-e-Pakistan Committee, he underscored the paramount importance of national security and the protection of citizens above all else. His remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the government and security forces to stabilize the province, which has historically faced challenges related to militancy and unrest.
During the event, Ashrafi reaffirmed his full support for the Pakistan Armed Forces, highlighting their active role in confronting threats such as Fitna al-Hindustan and Fitna al-Khawarij, which are seen as disruptive forces targeting the country’s peace and harmony. He elaborated on the mission of the National Paigham-e-Pakistan Committee, emphasizing its commitment to fostering equality, social cohesion, and brotherhood among Pakistan’s diverse communities. Ashrafi also made it clear that terrorism transcends religious boundaries, stressing that violent extremism has no place in any faith.
He further emphasized that peaceful protest remains a fundamental constitutional right for every citizen, reflecting the democratic values Pakistan upholds. At the same time, he assured that the state is unwavering in its dedication to safeguarding the lives and security of its people at all times. This balance between protecting civil liberties and maintaining law and order is crucial in the ongoing fight against extremism and violence.
Reflecting on his recent three-day visit to Quetta, Ashrafi shared that he received detailed briefings from security and administrative authorities. He also held extensive discussions with key provincial leaders, including the Chief Minister and Governor, as well as other senior officials. These meetings aimed to assess the current security measures and explore ways to strengthen peace initiatives. Ashrafi reiterated that the entire nation stands firmly behind the Pakistan Army in its efforts to maintain stability and counter terrorism.
In addition, he mentioned that evidence pertaining to terrorist activities has been shared with Afghan authorities, highlighting the cross-border nature of the security challenges faced by Pakistan. He described the ongoing conflict along the Afghanistan border as a form of jihad, underscoring the seriousness of the threat and the need for coordinated responses to address it effectively.
On the same occasion, Maulana Abdul Rahim expressed confidence that the steps taken in Balochistan will produce positive outcomes in the near future. He noted that meaningful and constructive discussions were held regarding the core issues affecting the region. To further promote peace and dialogue, he announced plans to organize a special two-day seminar in Quetta after Eid. This event aims to bring together various stakeholders to foster understanding and cooperation as a pathway to lasting peace.
Adding to the sentiment, Allama Hashim Mousavi highlighted dialogue as the most effective tool for resolving conflicts and establishing enduring peace in Balochistan. The collective emphasis on communication and unity reflects a broader national consensus that combating extremism requires not only security operations but also inclusive social and political engagement.
