US Embassy and Consulates in Pakistan Halt Visa Services Amid Security Concerns

The United States Embassy in Islamabad, along with its Consulates General located in Lahore and Karachi, has temporarily halted all visa services as of Tuesday. This suspension includes the cancellation of all previously scheduled visa appointments, which will remain in effect until March 6. The decision comes as a direct response to the prevailing security environment within the country, prompting US diplomatic authorities to take precautionary steps to ensure the safety of their personnel and applicants.

Officials from the US diplomatic missions have emphasized that this move is a preventive measure aimed at addressing the current security challenges. These concerns have escalated following recent geopolitical developments in the region, notably the joint military action undertaken by the United States and Israel against Iran. Such events have heightened tensions and led to increased vigilance among foreign missions operating in Pakistan.

During this suspension period, all visa interviews and related appointments that were scheduled prior to the announcement have been cancelled. The embassy has urged all visa applicants to stay updated by regularly checking the official US Embassy website and monitoring any email communications for further instructions. New appointment dates and additional information will be shared once the security situation stabilizes and normal operations can safely resume.

It is important to note that the security landscape is under continuous assessment by US officials. The embassy and consulates are closely monitoring developments to determine the appropriate time to restart visa processing services. This temporary halt reflects the broader challenges faced by diplomatic missions worldwide in maintaining operations amid fluctuating security threats.

Meanwhile, other foreign diplomatic missions in Pakistan have also adjusted their routine functions in response to the heightened security risks. These measures underscore the sensitive nature of the current geopolitical climate and its direct impact on international diplomatic activities within Pakistan. The US Embassy and Consulates remain committed to safeguarding their staff and the public while working to restore full services as soon as conditions permit.
