IHC Reserves Verdict on Bail for Woman Accused of Assaulting Husband

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday reserved its judgment concerning a bail application filed for a woman accused of physically assaulting her husband. Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro presided over the hearing, which involved a petition submitted by the woman’s father on behalf of Aamna Saeed, who was arrested following allegations of assault against her spouse.

The complainant’s counsel informed the court that Aamna had allegedly attacked her husband on three separate occasions, with visible injuries evident on his body. Notably, Justice Soomro highlighted the case’s prominence due to the victim’s affiliation with a security force. He questioned, “Is this woman a commando?” after being told that an iron rod was recovered from her possession.

The lawyer clarified that the rod was “specially prepared” and intended for the alleged assault. During proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer contended that even if the woman had acted in anger, “she is the lordship of the house,” a statement that elicited laughter in the courtroom. It was also revealed that Saeed holds a PhD in philosophy, and the lawyer mentioned there were multiple family issues the court preferred not to explore in detail.

The court inquired whether the woman had personally transported her husband to the hospital following the incident. Meanwhile, the complainant’s lawyer further accused her of assaulting their two daughters as well. The investigating officer added that no mental health evaluation of the woman had been conducted during the investigation.

After hearing arguments from both parties, the Islamabad High Court reserved its decision on the bail petition, leaving the outcome pending.
