Special Investigative Committee Begins Probe in Mir Raza Murder Case Karachi

A special investigative committee tasked with probing the alleged murder of young businessman Mir Raza convened on Monday in Karachi, with DIG Aamir Farooqi presiding over the session. The committee is set to undertake a comprehensive re-examination of the case file, during which all members, including the chair, will receive a detailed briefing on the investigation to date.

The meeting aims to assess all prior investigative efforts alongside the post-mortem report. Following this, the team plans to meet with Mir Raza’s parents to discuss developments. Additionally, the committee will conduct a thorough inspection of the crime scene, which remains cordoned off with police maintaining security at the location.

In a significant development, the case initially registered as a kidnapping after Mir Raza’s disappearance in late July has now been reclassified as a murder investigation. This change followed the exhumation of his body and a fresh medico-legal examination. Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, concerning murder, was subsequently added to the FIR No. 795/2026 filed at Ferozabad Police Station. The post-mortem revealed a gunshot wound and signs of torture, contradicting earlier claims of suicide linked to financial disputes.

Meanwhile, Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain, expressed his preference against forming a judicial commission, stating his confidence in the newly established investigative committee. He noted that despite suggestions from the interior minister and Karachi’s mayor to set up a judicial commission, the family promptly conveyed their stance to relevant officials including the AIG and SSP within 20 minutes of the meeting.

Mir Hussain praised DIG Aamir Farooqi for his reputable character and expressed optimism that the committee would deliver results within four to five days. He also requested the inclusion of technically qualified investigators to support the inquiry.

Raising concerns about the investigation, Mir Hussain questioned why his son’s business partner, who has been missing for the past 10 days, had not been interrogated. He also highlighted the lack of information regarding any police inquiries involving staff at a guest house in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where CCTV footage has yet to be released. Moreover, details about arrests or suspects fleeing the scene remain undisclosed. He criticized the police for briefing the media without updating the family and lamented the absence of government representatives visiting the family during the 11 days since the incident.

Mir Raza Ali disappeared on July 28, 2026, after leaving his home, with his body discovered the following day near Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Initial reports attempted to portray the death as a suicide related to financial troubles, supported by an alleged audio clip referencing owed payments. However, the family’s persistent protests and distrust in the investigation led the court to order the exhumation of the body at Tariq Road graveyard under medical supervision. The new post-mortem confirmed that Mir Raza had been shot in the back and showed evidence of torture, reinforcing the family’s belief that he was murdered.
