Sindh Prepares for Heavy Rains as PDMA Launches Emergency Measures

Sindh has been placed on high alert as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has initiated emergency protocols in anticipation of thunderstorms and rainfall expected to continue until July 25. The warning covers 23 districts across the province, highlighting the potential for severe weather conditions.

The PDMA has issued advisories for multiple areas, forecasting rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Larkana, and Khairpur. Additional thunderstorms are predicted in Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Jamshoro, and Shaheed Benazirabad. Meanwhile, light rainfall is expected in Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Larkana, and Thatta.

In a significant development, PDMA Sindh Director General Salman Shah emphasized the risks posed by strong winds and lightning, particularly to vulnerable structures. He instructed district administrations and relevant departments, especially in Karachi, to maintain heightened vigilance.

Preparedness measures include the deployment of dewatering pumps and emergency response vehicles to manage any rain-induced emergencies. Low-lying areas prone to urban flooding have been identified to ensure rapid intervention if needed.

Specifically, 10 dewatering vehicles have been allocated for Karachi, while Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas will each receive 25 vehicles. Sukkur and Larkana have been assigned 15 vehicles apiece. In Karachi, these vehicles will be strategically positioned at various locations for prompt deployment, supported by technical teams overseeing operations.

Furthermore, the PDMA control room is functioning around the clock to continuously monitor weather developments. Coordination efforts with district administrations and relevant departments remain active to guarantee an effective and timely response throughout the monsoon period.
