Two Dead, Two Rescued After Vehicle Falls Into Canal in Kandhkot

In Kandhkot, Sindh, a tragic accident occurred on Sunday when a vehicle plunged into the Shahi Canal, resulting in two fatalities and two survivors. The incident took place near Kandhkot in the Kashmore district when a Datsun pickup truck carrying several passengers lost control on a deteriorated bridge and fell into the rapidly flowing canal.

The driver was able to swim to safety, but four passengers, including two children, were swept away by the strong currents. Local residents immediately launched a rescue operation, successfully pulling two children from the water alive. Unfortunately, two other passengers were carried off by the torrent and remain missing.

Family members identified the missing individuals as 10-year-old Lal and 20-year-old Mujeeb Goloo. Relatives expressed frustration, stating they are conducting their own search efforts as no official rescue operation has yet been initiated despite informing authorities promptly.

Drowning incidents are frequent in rural Pakistan, often linked to crumbling infrastructure, poorly maintained bridges, and overloaded vehicles. Residents voiced anger over the bridge’s poor condition, attributing the tragedy to government neglect.

In a significant development, families have called on authorities to deploy specialized divers to recover the missing victims. Meanwhile, local administrative officials have not responded to requests for comment regarding the alleged delay in launching an official rescue mission.
