At least six individuals lost their lives when a vehicle en route from Gilgit to Rawalpindi was involved in a fatal accident near the Lower Matta Banda check post in Kohistan, local authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The car, registered as AFB-324, was navigating the mountainous roads when the crash occurred. Emergency response teams were dispatched promptly following reports of the incident.

Rescue personnel and police arrived quickly at the scene to recover the victims and transport them to a nearby medical facility. The process of identifying the deceased is currently ongoing.

Preliminary information reveals that those who died were from various regions, including Muzaffarabad and Khanewal. Efforts are underway to notify the families of the victims as authorities work to complete the identification process.

In a significant development, local police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. While the exact reasons remain unclear, officials are examining factors such as mechanical failure, driver fatigue, and the challenging terrain.

Road accidents in this area are common, often attributed to difficult mountainous conditions, poor road infrastructure, and reckless driving. Further inquiries will aim to clarify the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
