In a significant development, an overnight attack on a police post in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the death of one militant and injuries to four others. The assault took place around 1 a.m. local time in this border region adjoining Afghanistan, which has seen a rise in militant activities and frequent hit-and-run attacks targeting security forces.

The militants targeted the Mazanga police post, but the police successfully repelled the attack. One police officer suffered minor injuries during the ensuing gunfight, while the assailants retreated after facing strong resistance from the security personnel.

A heavy exchange of gunfire continued until early morning, after which security forces launched a thorough search operation in the vicinity. During the operation, weapons and equipment were recovered, including magazines, hand grenades, a bandolier, and a ladder.

Reinforcements led by District Police Officer Yasir Afridi, along with Rapid Response Force and Quick Response Force units, were promptly dispatched to the scene following the attack. The injured police officer, identified as Faridullah Khan, was immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

In response to the incident, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Zulfiqar Hameed commended the bravery and resilience of the personnel defending the post. He announced cash rewards and commendation certificates for those involved in thwarting the attack, highlighting the continued commitment of security forces to maintaining stability in the region.
