Five Civilians, Including Women and Child, Killed in Bannu Suicide Attack

At least five civilians, among them three women and a child, lost their lives in a suicide bombing outside the Domail police station in Bannu on Friday. Four additional individuals sustained serious injuries in the attack, which targeted civilians gathered near the police facility.

The assault was carried out by militants affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij but ultimately failed to achieve its intended impact. Those wounded were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care. Security and rescue teams are actively clearing debris, providing assistance, and conducting thorough search operations in the affected area.

This violent incident comes amid intensified counter-terrorism efforts by security forces in the region. Over the past two days, 22 terrorists have been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), as confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

On April 1, intelligence-based operations targeted militant hideouts in Bara, Khyber District, and Bannu, resulting in the elimination of 13 India-backed terrorists. The following day, eight additional India-sponsored militants were neutralized along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan District.

Since 2021, Pakistan has experienced a rise in terrorist activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan provinces, coinciding with the Afghan Taliban’s takeover. In response, Pakistan launched “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq,” which led to the deaths of approximately 684 Afghan Taliban operatives and allied militants, injuries to over 900, and the destruction of 252 militant checkposts, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.

In October 2025, border clashes intensified after the Afghan Taliban and allied militants launched unprovoked attacks on Pakistani border posts. These confrontations resulted in the deaths of more than 200 Taliban fighters and allied militants, while 23 Pakistani soldiers were martyred defending the country.

Despite multiple rounds of dialogue, no agreement has been reached, largely due to the Afghan Taliban regime’s unwillingness to take decisive action against terrorist groups operating from their territory.
