The Pakistan Stock Exchange experienced a notable downturn on Wednesday as the benchmark KSE-100 Index dropped by 1,370.52 points, representing a decline of 0.82 percent. The index closed at 168,021.80, reflecting a significant shift in market sentiment driven by increased selling pressure.
In the previous trading session, the KSE-100 had recorded a positive performance, gaining 1,422 points or 0.85 percent to finish at 169,392.33 points. However, Wednesday’s session reversed this momentum, with the market broadly moving in a negative direction. A total of 320 stocks saw their prices fall, while only 121 advanced, and 129 remained unchanged, indicating widespread bearishness across sectors.
Trading activity was robust, with a total volume of 356.14 million shares exchanged. The value of these traded shares reached approximately Rs19.49 billion, spread over 278,324 transactions. Alongside the KSE-100, other key indices also faced declines. The All-Share Index dropped by 689.83 points, or 0.68 percent, closing at 101,556.93, while the KSE-30 Index fell 476.61 points, or 0.95 percent, ending the day at 49,991.48.
This downturn highlights the volatile nature of the market, where investor confidence fluctuated sharply within a short span. The reversal after a strong gain in the previous session underscores the cautious approach investors are adopting amid prevailing economic uncertainties and market dynamics.
