Donald Trump’s Board of Peace is set to present a comprehensive six-month recovery plan for Gaza, valued at $2.45 billion, during a meeting scheduled for Wednesday. This initiative encompasses 66 projects aimed at addressing critical needs in the war-torn region.
The proposal outlines estimated expenditures for temporary housing, debris clearance, hospital repairs, economic revitalization, and the deployment of a multinational security force. It also highlights the extensive physical damage in Gaza, estimated at $35.2 billion, with full reconstruction projected to cost approximately $71.4 billion over the next ten years.
Key components of the plan include repairing border crossings, restoring electricity and water systems, distributing 25,000 portable solar power kits, and permanently sealing tunnels beneath sites prioritized for reconstruction. These measures are designed to facilitate sustainable recovery and security in the enclave.
In a significant development, the Trump administration informed Congress in late July of its intention to allocate over $206 million toward a proposed Gaza peacekeeping force. This marks the first major financial commitment to the stalled US-led effort to rebuild Gaza.
Trump established the Board of Peace to oversee this ambitious initiative aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza. However, progress has been hindered since an agreement was announced in late July, with both Israel and Hamas refusing to meet conditions necessary for advancing the plan.
Meanwhile, the Board of Peace and the Palestinian government have yet to secure the full $2.45 billion funding. Nonetheless, they remain optimistic that once political obstacles are resolved, international donors will contribute the necessary resources to support the recovery efforts.
