Kamala Harris Signals Possible 2028 Presidential Run Amidst Democratic Field

Former Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election, revealed on Friday that she is contemplating another run for the presidency in 2028. Speaking at a gathering of the National Action Network, a civil rights group established by Reverend Al Sharpton, Harris was directly asked by Sharpton about her intentions for the next election cycle.

Responding to the question, Harris said, “I might, I might. I’m thinking about it, I’m thinking about it,” eliciting enthusiastic applause from the audience at the New York City event. She emphasized that her decision would depend on who could best serve the American people as president in 2028.

Harris served as vice president under President Joe Biden and was defeated in her 2024 presidential campaign by President Donald Trump, who secured both the popular vote and the Electoral College. Prior to her vice presidency, Harris held positions as a U.S. senator and California’s attorney general, among other roles. She also sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 but was unsuccessful.

A potential 2028 campaign for Harris may face obstacles, as polls indicate a desire among Democratic voters for fresh leadership following her defeat to Trump. The National Action Network convention also featured several other prospective Democratic contenders, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
