Three children have died after a gas cylinder blast brought down the roof of a house in Peshawar, while a woman and a girl are still being treated in hospital, officials said. The explosion happened late on Wednesday night at a home near Pajjagi Road and was reportedly triggered by a gas leak.
The force of the blast collapsed the roof and buried five members of one household, a woman and four children, under the rubble. Rescue 1122 crews arrived after being alerted and pulled all five people out of the debris. They were taken to Lady Reading Hospital in critical condition.
Three children dead, woman and girl still under care
A hospital spokesperson said three of the injured children died while receiving treatment. The woman and one girl remain at the facility under medical care.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief over the deaths, saying the loss of the young children was deeply tragic. In a statement, he offered condolences to the family and wished the injured woman and girl a speedy recovery. He directed the relevant authorities to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care and that no negligence occurs in their treatment.
Earlier gas cylinder incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Gas cylinder explosions have caused deaths and injuries elsewhere in the province as well. In June 2025, six members of a family died and two girls were injured when a cylinder blast collapsed the roof of a two-storey house in Mardan’s Aram Colony. In February 2025, at least 12 people were hurt when a cylinder exploded at a roadside cafe near Khyber Teaching Hospital in Peshawar.
In June 2023, three children died after a suspected cylinder explosion brought down the roof of a house on Dora Road in Peshawar, trapping their parents and children beneath the debris.
