The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Thursday that it is actively engaged in efforts to restore internet services following a disruption caused by a fault in the SMW-5 submarine cable. This technical issue has led to widespread internet slowdowns and connectivity problems across various regions of the country.

In a significant development, the PTA confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation as users report intermittent service degradation and slower internet speeds. The fault in the SMW-5 cable, a critical piece of infrastructure for international internet traffic, has prompted immediate action to mitigate the impact on users nationwide.

Meanwhile, Transworld Associates along with the SMW-5 consortium are collaborating to identify the root cause of the fault and work towards a timely resolution. Although the exact timeline for full restoration remains under evaluation, the authorities have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to expedite repairs.

Notably, to ensure uninterrupted internet connectivity during this period, internet traffic is being rerouted through alternative international links. The PTA emphasized that it is maintaining continuous communication with all relevant stakeholders and is committed to restoring normal internet services across Pakistan as soon as possible.
