The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has formally registered the BIGO LIVE and Likee platforms in Pakistan, a move it says supports tighter regulatory oversight and cooperation with digital companies. The announcement was made in Islamabad.

According to the PTA, both platforms were registered under BIGO Services Pakistan (Private) Limited, in line with the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content Rules, 2021. The authority said the registration would encourage responsible use of social media and help ensure compliance with Pakistani laws and regulations.

PTA plans closer content monitoring with BIGO

The regulator said it remains committed to strengthening its online content monitoring mechanism in collaboration with BIGO LIVE. It also stressed the value of clear communication and wider engagement with digital platforms, aiming to build a more responsible online space in the country.

BIGO’s earlier registration and certificates

BIGO Service Pakistan was among the first companies to register with the PTA under the same rules. In January 2022, it received registration certificates for BIGO LIVE and Likee, along with Snack Video.

Other large platforms are also facing similar pressure. TikTok has removed more than 23 million videos from Pakistan for breaking its rules.
