Leaked Data Reveals Why GTA6 PC Release Is Delayed

Rockstar Games recently suffered a cyberattack, resulting in the unauthorized access of limited internal data via a third-party breach. Following the studio’s refusal to meet demands, the hacking group released the stolen information publicly.

Among the leaked financial records is a revealing statistic that may disappoint PC gamers awaiting Grand Theft Auto 6. The documents disclose that an overwhelming 97% of Grand Theft Auto Online’s weekly revenue is generated by console players, leaving the PC platform with a minimal share.

The breakdown shows PlayStation 5 leading with approximately $4.5 million in weekly sales, followed by Xbox Series X at about $1.8 million. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One contribute $947,000 and $918,000 respectively, while the PC accounts for just $264,000 per week. Overall, the total weekly revenue stands near $8.4 million, with the PC’s portion representing only 3.1%, highlighting a stark disparity.

GTA6 has been officially announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, with a release date set for November 19. Notably, no PC version has been confirmed yet. This staggered launch approach aligns with Rockstar’s previous patterns; for instance, GTA 5 debuted on consoles in September 2013, but the PC release followed nearly a year and a half later in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles in October 2018 and on PC in November 2019, with the PC version announced just one month before release.

Even if a PC edition of GTA6 is currently in development, Rockstar’s history suggests they will remain silent until after the console versions are successfully launched. The leaked financial data strongly supports prioritizing consoles, which generate roughly 32 times the weekly revenue of the PC market.

Furthermore, reports indicate that over two billion dollars have been invested in developing GTA6. To recoup this substantial expenditure, focusing on the core console audience is a logical strategy. PC gamers should closely monitor developments after the November launch, as an official PC announcement is likely to follow based on past trends.
