Update · 8 Nov 2026, 3:51 PM PKT: Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Mir Reza Ozgen wrote to the BISE Rawalpindi chairman citing extensive administrative, security and protocol arrangements for the chief minister's visit, which he said made the smooth and uninterrupted conduct of the examinations difficult.
The November 30 date applied to both morning and evening sessions at previously assigned examination centres. BISE Rawalpindi officials clarified that examinations in other districts under the board's jurisdiction would proceed according to the original schedule.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has removed Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Mir Reza Ozgen from his post. She said he had ordered the postponement of Intermediate examinations ahead of her expected visit to the district on November 10.
The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi had moved the Computer Science papers of the Intermediate Second Annual Examinations from November 10 to November 30. That step followed a recommendation from the Jhelum deputy commissioner, who cited the chief minister’s visits to Jhelum and Pind Dadan Khan and possible traffic congestion.
Chief minister cites disregard for her directions
In a post on X, Nawaz said the move was a clear disregard for her instructions and announced Ozgen’s removal with immediate effect. She said she had explicitly ordered that her district visits must not inconvenience the public, particularly students.
She added that officials were expected to ensure students and other members of the public faced no disruption during her trips.
Transfer notification and restored exam date
In a later post, Nawaz shared a notification confirming the transfer and instructing the officer to report to the Punjab Services and General Administration Department for further instructions. A government notification later said Ozgen, a BS-19 officer, had been transferred with immediate effect and must report to the same department for further orders.
Nawaz also announced that the postponed examinations would now take place as originally scheduled on November 10. In another X post, she said: “Notwithstanding any acts of foolishness or misplaced over-smartness on the part of the district administration, the examinations shall be held strictly in accordance with the original schedule, i.e. Tuesday, 10th November,” she said.
