The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed all members of parliament and provincial assemblies to file annual statements of their assets and liabilities. The directive was issued on Friday, with a December 31 deadline for submissions.
The filings cover the 2025–2026 financial year and reflect holdings as of June 30, 2026. The commission said lawmakers are legally required to declare the assets of their spouses and dependent children too.
Penalties for missing the deadline
Names of lawmakers who miss the December 31 deadline will be published on January 1, 2027. A final grace period runs until January 15, 2027, after which non-compliant members will face immediate suspension.
This applies to members of the Senate, the National Assembly and all four provincial assemblies. Suspended lawmakers will be barred from taking part in any assembly proceedings until they comply.
Warning over false asset details
The ECP also warned that strict legal action under corrupt practices laws will be taken if any submitted asset details are found to be false.
