Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has confirmed that Pakistan will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Council Summit in 2027. This announcement comes as Pakistan prepares to assume the chairmanship of the council in September, inviting member states to actively participate in the upcoming summit.
Leading the Pakistani delegation at the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Kyrgyzstan, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s strong adherence to the SCO Charter and the principles of the “Shanghai Spirit,” which emphasize mutual trust, respect, and collective development as the cornerstones of regional cooperation.
Dar expressed Pakistan’s readiness to take over the SCO Heads of State Council chairmanship and affirmed the country’s commitment to enhancing the organisation’s role as an effective platform for regional collaboration. He urged member countries to refrain from confrontation and the use of force in policy-making, highlighting the importance of connectivity, poverty alleviation, and economic cooperation throughout the SCO region.
Notably, Dar underscored that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) aligns closely with the SCO’s objectives for regional connectivity and economic integration, reinforcing Pakistan’s strategic role in the region.
Highlighting Islamabad’s diplomatic initiatives, Dar pointed out Pakistan’s contribution to fostering peace in the Middle East through the Islamabad Reconciliation Memorandum, reflecting the country’s broader commitment to regional stability.
During the meeting’s sidelines, Dar attended a dinner hosted by Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev and participated in a gathering with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, where he delivered greetings and a message from Pakistan’s leadership.
Additionally, the foreign minister conducted bilateral discussions with counterparts from China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. These talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, addressing regional developments, and exploring further avenues for cooperation.
Pakistan remains dedicated to deepening bilateral ties with Kyrgyzstan and advancing the SCO’s mission as a platform for regional peace, enhanced connectivity, and shared prosperity.
