12 Arrested Over Right-Wing Terror Plot Targeting UK Tablighi Jamaat Event

Twelve people have been apprehended in connection with a right-wing terror plot targeting the Tablighi Jamaat’s UK Ijtima, held at Shrubland Hall, a country estate in Suffolk. The event, which attracted around 15,000 attendees, was cut short on Sunday as a precautionary measure following the identified threat.

In a significant development, Counter Terrorism Police London declared the situation a major incident early Sunday morning, coordinating a multi-agency response to ensure the safe and orderly departure of participants. The major incident status was lifted on Monday after the event concluded without harm.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood emphasized the effectiveness of the police response in neutralizing a “credible threat,” stating it undoubtedly saved lives. She acknowledged the distress this news may cause within British Muslim communities and called for unity against hatred, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to openness, generosity, and tolerance toward all communities.

Assistant Chief Constable Alice Scott of Suffolk Constabulary addressed local concerns, assuring residents of a continued visible police presence around Shrubland Hall in the coming days. She encouraged community members to engage with law enforcement if they have questions or concerns. Scott praised the calmness of organizers and attendees during the tense situation, highlighting the collaborative efforts that ensured everyone left safely.

Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, detailed the swift action taken after the potential threat was identified, resulting in arrests across multiple locations nationwide. She expressed gratitude to Suffolk Police, event organizers, and the public for their cooperation. Flanagan acknowledged the anxiety such threats cause, particularly within the Muslim community, but reaffirmed the authorities’ commitment to act decisively against any threat regardless of the target.

Notably, although the event ended earlier than planned, it proceeded without incident. Flanagan reminded the public that the UK threat level remains at ‘severe’ and urged vigilance, encouraging people to report any suspicious activity promptly.
