Qatari PM Calls on Iran and US to Resume Diplomatic Talks Amid Tensions

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani has urged both Iran and the United States to recommit to diplomatic engagement following a recent surge in military tensions that have directly affected Doha over the past two days.

In a significant development, Sheikh Mohammed held a high-level phone discussion on Thursday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, focusing on maritime security protocols and the broader stability of the region.

During the conversation, the Qatari leader strongly condemned the recent assaults on commercial vessels in the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz. He warned that such aggressive actions severely damage trust, threaten the safety of international shipping, and undermine ongoing multilateral efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.

This diplomatic appeal came after a Qatari oil tanker was targeted earlier this week in the vital shipping corridor, an event that sent shockwaves through global energy markets and raised security concerns across the Gulf.

Meanwhile, reports surfaced on Thursday of Iran launching drones toward a location within Qatar, further escalating the crisis. Addressing this volatile situation, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the urgent need for all involved parties to exercise maximum restraint and maintain a firm commitment to dialogue.

He called on both Washington and Tehran to honor their obligations under the previously signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) designed to halt hostilities. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s steadfast support for all international and regional efforts to manage the fallout, stressing that a comprehensive diplomatic agreement is the only sustainable solution for lasting peace and stability in the region.
