Pakistan to Introduce Doorstep Passport Delivery Service Nationwide

The federal government of Pakistan has resolved to introduce a doorstep passport delivery service aimed at simplifying and accelerating the process of passport collection for citizens across the country. This initiative is designed to enhance convenience and efficiency in passport issuance.

A meeting convened in Islamabad, led by Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa, focused on reviewing the progress of a dedicated digital application developed to support this service. During the session, new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for passport delivery were finalized, marking a significant advancement toward a more streamlined and user-friendly experience for applicants nationwide.

In a significant development on April 30, the federal government evaluated ongoing reforms in the passport issuance system during a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry. The assembly approved key reforms aimed at modernizing the passport framework, including a reduction in the delivery time for regular passports from 21 days to 14 days.

Meanwhile, officials discussed strategies to enhance the efficiency of the doorstep delivery service, emphasizing improvements in home delivery logistics. A major decision was made to implement a fully cashless payment system across all passport offices within the next 15 days. This move is intended to increase transparency and curb the influence of intermediaries often referred to as the “agent mafia.”

Additionally, the meeting reviewed progress on the introduction of a Business Passport category and deliberated on establishing a dedicated Passport Authority. This authority is expected to bolster institutional capacity and elevate the overall quality of service within the immigration system.
