ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to environmental conservation, highlighting that the country remains highly susceptible to the adverse effects of climate change despite its minimal contribution to global emissions.
In a statement released on World Environment Day, the prime minister emphasized Pakistan’s alignment with the global community in efforts to protect the environment and confront escalating climate challenges. He underscored that safeguarding the environment is a collective responsibility requiring unified international efforts to effectively address the threats confronting humanity.
PM Shehbaz pointed to recent floods, droughts, and the accelerated melting of glaciers as stark evidence of the intensifying impact of climate change. He noted that Pakistan continues to suffer considerable human and economic damages due to environmental degradation and climate-induced disasters.
The prime minister stressed that overcoming these challenges demands a firm commitment and cooperative action at individual, national, and international levels. He highlighted that the government is actively pursuing policies to promote renewable energy, encourage environmentally sustainable industries, and restore natural ecosystems.
Calling on citizens to contribute, PM Shehbaz urged the public to embrace sustainable lifestyles to help build a greener and more resilient Pakistan. He concluded by reminding everyone that protecting the environment for future generations is a shared duty.
