European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, is set to visit Islamabad on June 1 for bilateral discussions and the eighth session of the EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue. This high-level meeting will be co-chaired by Kallas alongside Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar.
The dialogue aims to evaluate cooperation across multiple sectors and explore the future trajectory of relations between Pakistan and the European Union. It offers a platform to review progress under the Strategic Engagement Plan, a framework established in June 2019 to enhance collaboration in political, economic, security, and development areas.
Recognized as the premier forum for EU-Pakistan engagement, the Strategic Dialogue facilitates exchange of perspectives on regional and global issues of mutual concern. Following the discussions, Kallas and Dar will conduct a joint press conference in Islamabad. Audiovisual coverage of the meetings will be accessible through the EU’s official media channels.
During her visit, Kallas is scheduled to meet with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir. Additionally, she will engage with representatives from think tanks and academic institutions, underscoring the EU’s commitment to broad-based dialogue with policymakers, researchers, and civil society.
This visit occurs amid ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and the EU on trade, development, climate action, migration, and regional stability. Both parties are focused on strengthening their partnership through consistent high-level interactions and institutional dialogue.
