Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Monday that the provincial government has approved the acquisition of 500 electric buses as part of a public-private partnership initiative aimed at enhancing the region’s public transportation system. The announcement came during a session of the Sindh Assembly, where Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) member Naseer Ahmed raised concerns about the absence of adequate public transport in Karachi’s Manghopir area, urging the government to introduce services for local residents.

In response, Minister Memon outlined plans to expand the transport network, noting that bus services would soon be launched in Orangi, Banaras, and several other localities. He further revealed intentions to operate Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on three additional routes, emphasizing that the overall bus network throughout Sindh is being broadened to address such issues.

Moreover, the senior minister informed the assembly about the initiation of new transport routes in Tando Allah Yar, Khairpur, and Rohri. He also mentioned that a new route in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Maymar area has recently become operational, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve connectivity across the province.

Meanwhile, during the same assembly session, MQM-P lawmaker Maaz Mehboob highlighted the rampant sale of gutka and narcotics in various parts of Karachi, including his own constituency. He alleged that these illegal activities were occurring with police complicity and called on Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar to personally visit his constituency to assess the situation.
