NAB Launches Special Investigation Division to Handle High-Profile Cases

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has inaugurated a Special Investigation Division (SID) following approval from its chairman, Lt. Gen (retired) Nazir Ahmed. This newly formed division will be headed by Director General Muhammad Tahir, a Grade 21 officer, who will report directly to the NAB chairman.

The SID is tasked with managing all high-profile investigations, consolidating responsibilities that were previously divided between the Joint Investigation Team and the Land Directorate. To support its mandate, the division has been assigned two dedicated prosecutors, Irfan Bhola and Shahid Nawaz Jadoon. Furthermore, ten officers from Grades 17, 18, and 19 have been transferred to the SID to bolster its operational capacity.

In a significant development aimed at strengthening NAB’s ability to handle complex and sensitive cases with improved efficiency and accountability, this new structure centralizes investigative efforts under one division. Meanwhile, last month the federal government extended the tenure of Lt. Gen (retired) Nazir Ahmed as NAB chairman for an additional three years. He initially assumed the role on March 4, 2023, following the resignation of his predecessor, Aftab Sultan. The extension is effective from March 6, 2026, ensuring continuity in NAB’s leadership during this period of institutional restructuring.
