    PM Shehbaz and Azerbaijan President Stress Urgent De-escalation in Gulf Tensions

    On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in a significant telephone conversation with Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, marking a moment of diplomatic warmth coinciding with the celebration of Eid ul Fitr. This exchange of greetings highlighted the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, two nations with deep-rooted cultural and historical ties.

    During their cordial discussion, the Prime Minister extended his sincere and heartfelt wishes for Eid to President Aliyev as well as to the Azerbaijani people, emphasizing the spirit of brotherhood that unites the two countries. President Aliyev reciprocated these sentiments warmly, conveying his own good wishes to the people of Pakistan. Both leaders took the opportunity to pray for the unity and solidarity of the wider Muslim Ummah, underscoring their shared commitment to fostering harmony among Islamic nations.

    The conversation also turned to pressing regional concerns, particularly the ongoing hostilities affecting Iran and the Gulf region. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s strong condemnation of the recent attacks targeting Azerbaijan, reaffirming Islamabad’s unwavering support and solidarity with the Azerbaijani people during these difficult times. The two leaders jointly emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation to prevent further conflict and instability in this strategically important area.

    Both President Aliyev and Prime Minister Shehbaz underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the most viable path toward resolving outstanding disputes and tensions. Their call for peaceful negotiations reflects a shared vision of stability and cooperation in a region that has witnessed significant turmoil in recent months.

    Furthermore, the leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. They reaffirmed their mutual determination to deepen and expand the fraternal ties that have long connected their countries, promising to work together to enhance cooperation across political, economic, and cultural spheres. This conversation not only reinforced the existing partnership but also laid the groundwork for future collaboration aimed at benefiting both nations and contributing to regional peace.
