Pakistan Thwarts Afghan Taliban Drone Attacks; Four Civilians Injured by Falling Debris

Rawalpindi witnessed a tense situation on March 13, 2026, when Pakistan’s military intercepted several rudimentary drones launched by the Afghan Taliban. While the drones were successfully neutralized before reaching their intended targets, fragments and debris from these intercepted aerial devices fell in various locations, resulting in injuries to four civilians, among them two children. This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by Pakistan amid cross-border hostilities.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistan’s armed forces, confirmed that the drones were detected and brought down through a combination of soft and hard kill methods. These defensive measures prevented potential damage to critical infrastructure and civilian areas. However, despite these successful interceptions, the falling wreckage caused harm to innocent bystanders. Specifically, two children were hurt in Quetta, while one civilian each suffered injuries in Kohat and Rawalpindi, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of such attacks.

Delving deeper into the motives behind these attacks, the ISPR condemned the Afghan Taliban’s actions as deliberate attempts to instill fear and insecurity among the Pakistani populace. The statement pointed out the contradictory stance of the Taliban, who simultaneously portray themselves as victims on the international stage while orchestrating violent attacks through proxies and unmanned aerial vehicles. This duality reflects a broader strategy aimed at destabilizing Pakistan and undermining regional peace.

Furthermore, the military’s spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s resolve in countering terrorism emanating from Afghan soil. The ongoing Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq, launched to eliminate terrorist safe havens and infrastructure, remains active until the Afghan Taliban address Pakistan’s core security concerns. This operation is a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and maintaining stability along its western borders.

In closing, the ISPR emphasized that Pakistan’s armed forces stand unwavering in their mission to protect the nation against all forms of terrorism, including emerging threats such as drone attacks. The military vowed to continue its defensive and offensive measures without hesitation, ensuring that provocations by militant groups do not go unanswered. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the complex security environment in the region and Pakistan’s determination to confront these challenges head-on.
