Seven Police Officers Killed in Deadly Blast Near Vehicle in Lakki Marwat District

In a tragic incident that has once again underscored the volatile security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at least seven police personnel lost their lives following a blast near a police vehicle in the Bettani tribal region of Lakki Marwat district. The explosion took place on Friday, devastating the local law enforcement community and raising serious concerns about the safety of security forces operating in this sensitive border area.

The police spokesperson revealed that the blast occurred in close proximity to a police mobile, initially killing six officers on the spot. Another policeman, who sustained critical injuries during the attack, was immediately transported to Insaafuddin Hospital for emergency medical care. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his wounds, bringing the death toll to seven. This loss has deeply affected the police force and the families of the martyrs, who are mourning the sacrifice of their loved ones.

In the aftermath of the explosion, reinforcements from various police contingents were swiftly deployed to the scene to secure the area, conduct investigations, and prevent any further escalation. The authorities are actively working to gather intelligence and identify the perpetrators behind this deadly assault. This attack comes amid a backdrop of increasing militant activity along Pakistan’s western border, particularly in regions adjoining Afghanistan.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack, paying tribute to the fallen officers and extending his deepest sympathies to their families. He emphasized the government’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of security personnel who risk their lives daily to protect the nation. The minister’s remarks highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and stability in border districts prone to insurgent violence.

It is important to note that since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has witnessed a surge in cross-border terrorist activities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. These areas share a porous and often volatile border with Afghanistan, which has become a hotspot for militant groups seeking to destabilize the region. In response to these threats, Pakistan launched a major counterterrorism campaign known as “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq.” This operation has targeted militant hideouts and fighters both along the border and inside Afghan territory.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the operation has resulted in the elimination of at least 641 Afghan Taliban militants. Additionally, over 855 fighters have been wounded, 243 militant checkposts destroyed, and 42 insurgents captured. The campaign has also led to the destruction of 219 tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery guns used by these groups. Prior to this, Pakistan conducted airstrikes against seven terrorist camps linked to Fitna al Khawarij (FAK), its affiliates, and Daesh-Khorasan in Afghan provinces such as Nangarhar, Paktika, and Khost, killing more than 80 militants in those operations.

These developments follow a series of violent border clashes between Pakistani forces and militants, including the Afghan Taliban, which escalated in October 2025. During these confrontations, over 200 Taliban and affiliated fighters were killed, while 23 Pakistani soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice defending their posts. Despite multiple rounds of diplomatic talks aimed at curbing cross-border terrorism, a lasting agreement has remained elusive, largely due to the Afghan Taliban regime’s unwillingness to take decisive action against terrorist outfits operating from their territory.

The recent blast in Lakki Marwat serves as a grim reminder of the persistent security threats faced by Pakistan’s frontline forces. It also highlights the urgent need for enhanced cooperation and strategic measures to address the complex challenges posed by militant groups exploiting the border regions. As investigations continue, the nation mourns the brave officers who gave their lives in the line of duty, reaffirming the resolve to combat terrorism and safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
