In a tragic incident on Friday, a powerful explosion targeted a police vehicle in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the deaths of seven police officers. The attack occurred in the Bettani subdivision, where an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated near a police mobile van, causing catastrophic damage and loss of life. This violent act has sent shockwaves through the local community and law enforcement agencies alike.

Authorities confirmed that six officers lost their lives instantly at the scene, while another officer sustained critical injuries. Emergency response teams, including rescue workers and security personnel, quickly arrived to provide assistance. The wounded officer was rushed to Insafuddin Hospital for urgent medical treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission. The swift response by first responders, however, could not prevent the tragic outcome.

The fallen officers have been identified as Station House Officer (SHO) Saddar Azam, along with Constables Namdar, Shah Behram—who was driving the vehicle—Shah Khalid, and several members of the elite force squad. Their sacrifice has deeply affected the police force and the wider community, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by security personnel in volatile regions of the country.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed strong condemnation of the attack, honoring the bravery and dedication of the officers who lost their lives. He paid heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs, emphasizing that their sacrifice was made in the pursuit of a peaceful and secure future for the nation. The minister underscored that the courage demonstrated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s police force in the face of terrorism will remain a lasting legacy.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also responded swiftly to the incident. He condemned the heinous attack and instructed the Inspector General of Police to submit a detailed report on the circumstances surrounding the blast. Afridi conveyed his profound sorrow over the loss of the officers and assured the bereaved families of full government support during this difficult time. Furthermore, he directed that the injured receive the highest standard of medical care available.

In his statement, Chief Minister Afridi reaffirmed the government’s resolve against terrorism, declaring that such cowardly acts would not deter their commitment to maintaining law and order. He expressed solidarity with the families of the martyrs, offering prayers for patience and strength as they cope with their immense loss. This incident once again highlights the persistent threat of terrorism in the region and the sacrifices made daily by those tasked with protecting the public.
