Trump Extends Operation Epic Fury to Five Weeks Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

In a significant development on Monday, President Donald Trump revealed that the United States military campaign against Iran, known as Operation Epic Fury, will continue for a duration of five weeks. This extension slightly surpasses the initial timeframe that was originally set for the operation. The announcement came during a briefing held in the White House East Room, where the President highlighted the progress of the campaign since its commencement last Friday.

President Trump described the operation as advancing “ahead of schedule,” though he refrained from disclosing specific tactical details or the exact nature of the ongoing military actions. He emphasized that while the current plan anticipates a four to five-week engagement, the timeline remains flexible and could be prolonged if necessary to fulfill the mission’s critical objectives. This cautious approach reflects the complexity and unpredictability of the military efforts in the volatile Middle East region.

The primary aim of Operation Epic Fury, as outlined by Trump, is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and to restrict its expanding capabilities in long-range ballistic missile technology. The President underscored concerns regarding Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and missile advancements, which have been a source of international tension for years. Despite these allegations, Iran has consistently denied any intention to pursue nuclear armament, maintaining that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Highlighting the operation’s early successes, Trump stated that US forces have already neutralized ten Iranian vessels, signaling a robust and effective campaign. This military action is part of a broader strategy to curb Iran’s influence and military reach in the region, which has seen increased hostilities in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, the conflict in the Middle East has escalated sharply, with reports emerging of a serious friendly-fire incident involving US aircraft. The US Central Command confirmed that Kuwaiti air defense systems mistakenly shot down three US F-15E fighter jets. Fortunately, all six crew members ejected safely and were reported to be in stable condition after being transferred to medical facilities for evaluation. Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence acknowledged the crashes but confirmed there were no fatalities, providing some relief amid the tense situation.

This incident occurred against the backdrop of ongoing Iranian missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and US military installations in the Gulf region. These attacks are believed to be retaliatory measures following joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian positions. The latest barrage of Iranian missiles struck various locations in Israel, injuring at least seven individuals and causing significant property damage. Explosions were reported in major cities including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, as well as in parts of the occupied West Bank, forcing residents to seek shelter in bomb shelters and safe zones.

In Kuwait City, smoke was observed near the US embassy, prompting American officials to advise citizens to remain indoors and avoid windows as a precautionary measure. Other Gulf countries such as Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates also reported missile interceptions or explosions, with air raid sirens sounding in multiple areas. Additionally, falling debris at Kuwait’s Mina Al-Ahmadi oil refinery resulted in minor injuries to two workers, further underscoring the widespread impact of the conflict on civilian infrastructure.

Adding to the diplomatic complexity, Iran’s National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani publicly dismissed rumors of potential negotiations with the United States. He took to the social media platform X to refute reports suggesting that Tehran might engage in nuclear talks through Omani intermediaries. Larijani’s statement signals Tehran’s firm stance against resuming dialogue under current circumstances, maintaining a hardline position amid escalating hostilities.

President Trump’s declaration of extending Operation Epic Fury highlights the US administration’s determination to maintain pressure on Iran despite the increasingly complicated and volatile environment. The ongoing military campaign, coupled with the recent friendly-fire mishap and regional missile exchanges, illustrates the fragile and dangerous nature of the current Middle East situation. As tensions continue to mount, the international community watches closely, aware that any misstep could further destabilize the region.
