The Meteorological Department has indicated that Karachi is likely to receive light rain within the next few hours, with moderate rain clouds observed over the city’s northeastern areas. Early signs of moderate rainfall have been detected in these parts of Karachi.

In a significant development, the Met Office has issued warnings of heavy rainfall from tonight through September 16, which could lead to urban flooding in low-lying regions of southeastern Sindh, including Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Islamkot, Mithi, Umerkot, Thatta, and Badin. The forecast also highlights the potential for severe rainstorms to impact major cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Lahore during this period.

Meanwhile, heavy rains are expected to trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs across northern and hilly areas including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. The Met Office also cautioned that landslides may occur in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir throughout the forecast period.

Additionally, the weather department warned that windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could cause damage to vulnerable structures during this time. The current weather pattern is influenced by a Low Pressure Area situated over Southeast Rajasthan and adjoining northern Gujarat, which is expected to move west-southwestward over the next 24 to 36 hours. A westerly wave is also affecting the upper and central parts of Pakistan, contributing to the unsettled weather conditions.
