The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a cautionary advisory as several districts in the province are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms between September 13 and 16. This follows the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) announcement that a monsoon low pressure system, initially formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the Odisha coast, has shifted into South Chhattisgarh and surrounding areas.

The weather system is anticipated to move westward, bringing rainfall and thunderstorms to parts of Sindh during the specified period. The PMD forecasts light rain and thunderstorms in Karachi from September 14 to 16, while other areas in Sindh may witness dust-thunderstorm rain. Some districts could face moderate to isolated heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorm activity.

Under the influence of this weather system, dust-thunderstorm rain with occasional moderate to isolated heavy downpours is expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, and Tando Muhammad Khan starting Sunday evening through September 16, with intermittent breaks. Additionally, light to moderate dust-thunderstorm rain is likely in Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Jamshoro during the same timeframe, also with occasional pauses.

The Karachi Division may similarly experience thunderstorms and light rain between September 14 and 16, as per the PDMA’s advisory. In a significant development, Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Rehabilitation, Giyanchand Essrani, stated that rain is expected across various parts of the province from September 13 to 16. He has instructed all deputy commissioners and relevant departments to keep machinery and personnel on standby to respond promptly to any weather-related emergencies.

Furthermore, the adviser directed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to maintain a high level of alertness throughout this period. The PDMA also called upon deputy commissioners, District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) chairpersons, and other key stakeholders to implement necessary precautionary and mitigation measures. Authorities are urged to remain vigilant and take all required steps to prevent any adverse incidents during the forecasted weather conditions.
