The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for a fresh spell of monsoon rains impacting various regions of the country, starting from August 29. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several areas in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are anticipated to experience rainfall during this period.
A westerly weather system is predicted to influence the upper parts of Pakistan from August 31 through September 5. Specific locations including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore, and Sialkot, along with other northern Punjab districts, are expected to receive rain from August 29 until September 5.
Meanwhile, central and southern Punjab are forecasted to witness rainfall between September 1 and September 5. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the majority of districts—such as Peshawar, Swat, Dir, and Chitral—are likely to see rain from August 29 through September 5.
Contrastingly, most parts of Sindh and Balochistan will probably continue to experience hot and humid conditions during this timeframe. In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain is expected in regions including Diamer, Astore, Skardu, and Hunza from August 30 to September 6.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir is also set to receive intermittent heavy rainfall across areas like Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur through September 6.
The Meteorological Department has cautioned that the sustained rainfall could lead to urban flooding in major cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Mardan. Additionally, there is a risk of flooding in streams and nullahs, flash floods, and landslides in hilly terrains.
Due to these hazards, travelers and tourists have been advised to avoid non-essential journeys and stay updated on weather conditions. In a related development, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority has instructed district administrations and concerned departments in Mardan and Swabi to remain vigilant and implement precautionary measures from August 31 to September 5 to mitigate urban flooding risks.
