PMD Predicts Rain and Thunderstorms Across Pakistan from Aug 16-21

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms across various regions of Pakistan from August 16 to 21. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected particularly in parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and upper Punjab during this period.

Rainfall is anticipated throughout AJK from August 16 to 21, with strong winds and thunderstorms likely in several locations. Areas such as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, Kotli, and Mirpur are among those forecasted to experience precipitation.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also expected to see rain with strong winds and thunderstorms from August 17 to 21. Cities including Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Malakand, and Mardan are likely to receive rainfall, along with other parts of the province. Additionally, southern districts like Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Waziristan may experience rain on August 20 and 21.

In Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, the Galiyat region, and other areas of upper Punjab, rain is forecast from August 16 through 21. Intermittent showers are also expected in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Mianwali, and adjacent areas during this timeframe. Furthermore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan are predicted to receive rainfall on August 20 and 21.

The rainfall is anticipated to provide temporary relief from the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions in many areas. However, heavy downpours could lead to localized waterlogging and other weather-related disturbances.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, intermittent rain accompanied by thunderstorms is forecast from August 18 to 21 in districts including Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar. Due to the region’s mountainous terrain, heavy rains could increase the risk of flash floods, landslides, and disruptions to road connectivity.

Most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid during this period. However, northern and central areas of Balochistan, such as Musa Khel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat, and Khuzdar, may receive rain between August 17 and 20.

The PMD has advised residents in regions prone to heavy rainfall to stay vigilant and monitor weather updates closely, especially in vulnerable mountainous and low-lying areas. This forecast comes as the monsoon season continues to impact various parts of the country, with upper regions expected to receive the majority of rainfall in the coming days.
