Authorities sealed a canteen at Rawalpindi’s Benazir Bhutto Hospital and arrested the responsible staff after a late-night inspection by the chief minister’s team. Inspectors found out-of-date food in refrigerators and unhygienic conditions in the area.
The inspection was ordered by Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and supervised by Special Assistant Shoaib Mirza. The team made unannounced visits to several wards and checked medical equipment across departments. It said it was satisfied with the cleanliness of the wards and the working order of the equipment.
Expired food found in hospital canteen refrigerators
During the visit, the team also questioned patients and their attendants about the supply of medicines and other healthcare services. The canteen, however, was judged unsatisfactory because expired items were discovered in its refrigerators. Mirza ordered the canteen sealed and imposed a heavy fine.
Officials arrested those held responsible, and expired and potentially hazardous food was removed from the premises.
