Gas Pipeline Blown Up in Bolan, Disrupting Supply in Balochistan

Gas supply to multiple towns and cities across Balochistan was interrupted on Thursday after an explosion severely damaged a key pipeline in the Bolan area. The 18-inch diameter pipeline was targeted by unidentified individuals, forcing the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to suspend gas deliveries to several regions.

The blast occurred near Gorkat in Bolan, where explosives were reportedly planted beneath the pipeline and detonated remotely. The explosion caused significant damage, producing flames and thick smoke from the affected section.

The damaged pipeline lies within the Bolan riverbed area close to the KMP-246 Valve Assembly, approximately 700 to 800 meters from the main Quetta-Sibi Road, as detailed by SSGC. Following the incident, gas supplies were halted to Kolpur, Mach, Mastung, Kalat, Pishin, Ziarat, and various parts of Quetta.

SSGC warned that consumers in these areas might face either reduced gas pressure or a complete suspension of service until repairs are completed. Notably, gas supply to Quetta has not been fully stopped, as the city also receives gas through a separate 12-inch pipeline.

The company’s spokesperson stated that repair teams are ready to be deployed to the site but must await security clearance due to the volatile security situation in the region. Management is closely monitoring the developments and will commence restoration work as soon as it is safe to do so.

This incident adds to a series of attacks on gas infrastructure across Balochistan in recent months. In May, a pipeline blast in Dera Bugti disrupted gas supplies to a large portion of the province. That same month, another pipeline attack led to suspension of gas services in Sohbatpur district of Nasirabad division.

Earlier in March, a similar explosion targeted a main gas pipeline in Quetta’s Western Bypass area. These repeated assaults have caused widespread supply disruptions and complicated maintenance efforts, especially where security concerns delay access to damaged sites.

Authorities have yet to identify those responsible for the latest bombing, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
