Islamabad authorities have released CCTV footage capturing the movements of the suspect involved in the fatal shooting of Pakistan Air Force Group Captain Asim Tariq. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Saad Abbasi, was apprehended following a swift police operation.

The footage shows Abbasi departing from the Faizabad bus terminal en route to Lahore shortly after the incident. Additional clips reveal him traveling on a motorcycle accompanied by the woman connected to the case. At one point, the suspect is seen entering a shop to change his clothing.

Police confirmed that Abbasi resides on Band Khanna Road within the jurisdiction of Khanna police station in Islamabad. He has completed his matriculation and previously worked as a salesman at an electronics store.

Investigations indicate the confrontation began when Abbasi allegedly tried to coerce the woman into accompanying him against her will. Upon her refusal, a physical struggle ensued. Group Captain Asim Tariq intervened after noticing the altercation, attempting to prevent the suspect from forcing the woman to leave with him.

In a significant development, the suspect reportedly became enraged and opened fire on the officer while he was seated inside his vehicle, then fled the scene. Group Captain Tariq later died from his injuries.

Senior police officials, including the SP City, arrived promptly at the location following the incident report. A search operation led by the SP City resulted in the suspect’s arrest.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari expressed their condolences over the loss. The prime minister praised Group Captain Tariq’s bravery and dedication, emphasizing that the nation honors such sacrifices. He also called for a transparent investigation to ensure accountability.

President Zardari described the officer’s sacrifice as a shining example of national service and courage. He highlighted concerns about the incident occurring on a major Islamabad road and stressed the importance of enhanced security measures to prevent similar crimes.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi requested a detailed report on the case and instructed police to expedite the suspect’s arrest and guarantee justice for the fallen officer. Group Captain Asim Tariq is survived by his widow, daughter, and son.
