At least two children lost their lives and three others sustained injuries after a lightning strike hit Khyber district amid severe weather conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday. The region experienced heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flash floods that caused extensive damage across several districts.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that the fatalities and injuries occurred in Khyber district due to the lightning strike. Meanwhile, in Lower Chitral, intense rainfall and a cloudburst damaged 27 houses. Flash floods also impacted two mosques, two shops, a bridge, and four vehicles in the area.
In Upper Chitral’s Yarkhun area of Mastuj, flash floods caused damage to a house and irrigation canals, further adding to the region’s distress.
Meanwhile, Bajaur district witnessed a sudden shift in weather as a dust storm swept through, followed by light rain after several days of scorching heat. Strong winds disrupted daily life, affecting traffic and public activities across multiple areas.
Despite the disruption caused by the storm, the rainfall brought much-needed relief by lowering temperatures and easing the recent spell of extreme heat in the district.
