Rawalpindi Traffic Police to Launch Juvenile Driving Permits for Teens

The Rawalpindi Traffic Police will soon begin issuing driving permits to individuals aged between 16 and 18 years. This initiative, directed by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to legally authorize eligible teenagers to operate motorcycles and scooters under regulated conditions.

Applicants must obtain parental consent to be eligible for the juvenile driving permit. Permit holders will be restricted to riding motorcycles and scooters with an engine capacity not exceeding 125cc. To qualify, candidates are required to present a Smart Card or B-Form and successfully pass both a traffic signs examination and a practical road test.

The annual fee for the juvenile permit will range from Rs 500 to Rs 1000. Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam highlighted that wearing a helmet is compulsory for all permit holders while riding. He also cautioned that permits could be suspended or revoked if holders commit serious traffic offenses or repeatedly violate road safety rules.

The program will be implemented through traffic police offices, with authorities encouraging young applicants to complete the necessary training and testing before receiving their permits. This measure is expected to enhance road safety while providing legal driving opportunities for youth in Rawalpindi.
