Wall Collapse at Data Darbar Construction Kills One Man

A tragic accident occurred at the Data Darbar construction site in Lahore when a wall collapsed during ongoing work near Gate No. 2. The incident involved a crane striking the wall, causing it to fall and bury a 38-year-old man named Shahid under the debris.

Local residents quickly rushed to the scene and managed to rescue Shahid from the rubble. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he later died from his injuries. Police arrived promptly after being alerted and secured the area to prevent further harm.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Hafiz Ubaidullah arrived at the location and launched an investigation, collecting evidence from the site. Authorities have detained five individuals connected to the incident, including the safety officer and crane operators. Those arrested are identified as Tahir, Hamza, Mudassar, Ameer Muawiya, and Luqman. A formal case has been filed against them on charges of negligence.

This unfortunate event follows a similar tragedy in January, when a young mother and her daughter died after falling into an uncovered manhole at the same Data Darbar expansion project. In response to that earlier incident, the Punjab government suspended the entire project team, including those working on the Bhati Chowk remodelling. The project consultant, NESPAK, was also issued a show-cause notice, with recommendations to suspend the resident engineer.

Investigations into the recent wall collapse are ongoing as authorities seek to determine the full circumstances behind the accident and ensure accountability.
