Alexander Morton, the Scottish actor renowned for his role in Monarch of the Glen, has passed away at the age of 81. His death has prompted an outpouring of heartfelt tributes from co-stars and colleagues who admired both his talent and character.

Known affectionately as Sandy, Morton enjoyed a distinguished career spanning several decades across television, film, and theatre. He became a familiar presence in numerous British productions, earning respect for his naturalistic acting style and grounded performances.

In a significant development, Robert Carlyle remembered Morton as a “brilliant actor” and one of the kindest individuals he had ever met. Carlyle described working alongside him as an educational experience, highlighting Morton’s profound influence on those around him.

Similarly, actor Gavin Mitchell paid a personal tribute, calling Morton a “titan of a man and an actor.” Mitchell reflected on the guidance and warmth Morton offered throughout the years, emphasizing how much he valued their conversations and the lasting impact Morton had on his career and life.

Morton’s acting journey began in the 1960s after training in London. He first gained recognition with a long-standing role in Take the High Road, before achieving wider fame as Golly Mackenzie in Monarch of the Glen, which aired from 2000 to 2005. His later appearances included roles in River City, as well as popular series such as Casualty, Shetland, and Taggart.

Throughout his career, Morton was celebrated for his understated and authentic portrayals, which left a lasting impression on British television audiences and his peers alike. His passing marks the loss of a veteran actor whose contributions to the industry will be fondly remembered.
