Mark Lee is set to depart from NCT and its agency SM Entertainment, marking a significant turning point for the prominent K-pop group. The 26-year-old artist will officially conclude his contract on April 8, ceasing all activities with NCT’s various units, including NCT 127 and NCT Dream.

In a notable development, SM Entertainment confirmed that the decision came after thorough discussions regarding Mark’s future career path, with both parties mutually agreeing to terminate the contract. The agency expressed gratitude for his contributions since his debut with NCT in 2016, emphasizing his adaptability in both group and solo projects.

Mark has been a pivotal member within NCT’s multi-unit framework, frequently participating in its main line-ups and playing a key role in the group’s international success. Following his exit, NCT 127 is expected to continue as a seven-member ensemble, while NCT Dream will promote with six members.

The announcement took many fans by surprise, especially as it came shortly after NCT Dream completed a series of concerts in Seoul. For many, Mark’s departure is comparable to Zayn Malik’s exit from One Direction, given his status as the face of NCT. Fans have expressed shock and disbelief, with some noting that the news has deeply affected their enthusiasm for the group’s recent activities.

Mark shared a heartfelt message with fans, thanking “Czennies,” the group’s dedicated fanbase, for their unwavering support throughout his career. He acknowledged their influence on his growth and assured them that their encouragement will always be remembered.

In April 2025, the Canadian-born rapper released his first solo album, The Firstfirst, signaling an increasing focus on his individual artistry. While no official announcements have been made regarding his future plans, the decision has sparked intense online discussions, with fans eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for Mark Lee.
