The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a notable rise on Wednesday as the benchmark KSE-100 Index climbed 830.43 points, or 0.48 percent, closing at 172,232.51. This marked an improvement from the previous session’s close of 171,402.08 points.
Throughout the trading day, the index maintained positive momentum, reaching an intraday peak of 172,762.41, which was 1,360.33 points above the prior close. The lowest point during the session was 171,843.50.
Investor interest was widespread across several major sectors, including fertilizers, commercial banking, refineries, and oil and gas exploration companies. Key contributors to the index’s upward movement included Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC), United Bank Limited (UBL), Meezan Bank Limited (MEBL), Attock Refinery Limited (ATRL), and Engro Holdings (ENGROH).
Specifically, FFC added 167.36 points to the index, UBL contributed 112.45 points, MEBL added 81.43 points, ATRL contributed 76.89 points, and ENGROH added 56.17 points. Conversely, some stocks exerted downward pressure, such as MCB Bank, Pakistan Services Limited (PSEL), K-Electric (KEL), Bank Alfalah (BAFL), and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).
The broader All-Share Index also advanced, gaining 469.06 points, or 0.45 percent, to finish at 104,231.79. Trading activity intensified with approximately 774 million shares changing hands, up from 642 million in the previous session. The total traded value increased by nearly Rs8 billion, reaching Rs26.45 billion.
Out of 495 companies traded during the session, 261 closed higher, 196 declined, and 38 remained unchanged. Earlier reports highlighted strong buying interest in automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration companies, oil marketing companies, and refineries.
Notably, heavyweight stocks such as Habib Bank Limited (HBL), MCB Bank, Meezan Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, Mari Petroleum (MARI), Oil & Gas Development Company (OGDC), Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), and Attock Refinery were trading positively, supporting the overall market rally.
